Jim Keen

I have a BS in Landscape Architecture from North Carolina A&T State University.  

Prior to joining New Garden, I worked for a large landscape architecture-civil engineering firm, where I gained so much experience in land-use and planning, but changed the direction of my career (landscape architecture is wonderfully SOOOO broad!!!), and wanted to combine my passion for plants and people, and joined the staff at New Garden.  I love working with my clients, many of whom I have worked with since I joined New Garden in 2005.   

I go to the clients personal space, and look at the area(s) to be created, and always ask “What is your vision for this space”   and from there, I develop a landscape or hardscape plan, create an estimate, present to the client, and the work really begins!  I love design-build, I also act as project manager as my vision comes to life. 

I really enjoy creating outdoor rooms such as patios, and accent them with water features, nightlights.

Outside of New Garden, of course, I enjoy working in my own garden, especially container gardening.

I love travelling, visiting new places, seeing new landscapes, getting new ideas. I love the beach, and am a huge theme park (roller coaster) addict. 

I love building relationships.  I tell my clients, this is your space, I bring no ego to the table, I’m only here at your home, a few times…you live here, I want you to be honest, down to a single plant, I want you to be happy with all my choices, if not, we’ll change it, and make you happy!!!
