Katie Cardille
B.A. from Temple U; NC Certified Plant Professional.
Started in 2000 as an entry level crew member. Worked hard and became foreman within 1 year. Obtained CPP in 2001, NC Pesticide license in 2000. Promoted to Account Manager in 2003 and began managing the enhancement teams and selling maintenance work and small plantings. Learned what I know about the industry and horticulture from many talented mentors at New Garden, from field experience and classes sponsored by New Garden, and self taught the rest!
I work with clients who are interested in one time small planting or maintenance projects or reoccurring maintenance services. The fun is meeting such a variety of people and seeing some very interesting properties around the area every day. I really enjoy helping make peoples outdoor space more enjoyable for them to live in.
I really try to listen to what the client wants. I find myself drawing up plans that are so very different from one another based on the client’s desires. One garden may be Japanese inspired and another more like an English garden style. Sometimes the client gives me free reign and I can use my tastes to design in a more natural way.
I actually love to work in my own garden! I try and involve my kids and teach them a love for plants at an early age. Other than that I do enjoy just being outdoors and going hiking or walking and spending time with my family.
I have a wonderful long term connection with a lot of my clients and their families. Some of my connections involve multiple generations of family members and I just love having that relationship with people. I think it is important to know who you are working with and trust them in order to achieve the level of communication necessary to create the right outdoor space for them. I really enjoy making people happy with their gardens!
